Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed!

This acclamation, which resounds in all the Orthodox Churches of the East and West from the night of Passover until the Ascension of our Lord Jesus, resounded in the cathedral of Notre-Dame-du-Signe at the monastery.

Because of the distance some of the faithful need to travel, we celebrate two Liturgies of the Resurrection. The first is celebrated during the great night of Pascha (Easter). It is preceded by the Paschal Vigils which begin with the blessing of the new fire outside. Returning to the cathedral, the faithful gathered around Bishop Mael who sang the Exultet, an ancient hymn from the Western tradition. When the Paschal Candle is lit, the faithful process round the church with candles singing the Paschal Troparion (hymn). The great Resurrection Vigil can now begin. The Eucharistic Liturgy commences immediately.

Every year, this beautiful and great festival of the Resurrection is a grand moment of gathering for a number of dispersed Christians. The following day, a Eucharistic Liturgy was preceded by the baptism of 11 year old Assia and the blessing of a new servant at the altar, Theophile. A hundred or so of the faithful gathered at the Oasis of Saint Joseph for the Agape. Solemn Vespers closed the festivities of the day.
